Group Ban
A platform operator bans a group following a report review or for platform-level misuse, suspending all group activity until the ban is lifted.
When a Group is Banned
An operator applies a group ban via the admin API. The group is suspended immediately.
While banned, the group:
- Accepts no new members. Join requests, invite-link joins, and QR-code joins are all blocked.
- Accepts no new ride creation.
- Allows no settings changes.
- Is removed from discovery (public groups only).
- Freezes all pending join requests. They cannot be approved or rejected during the ban.
The owner and all admins receive a notification when the ban is applied. Regular members are not notified — they see the group labeled "Unavailable" the next time they open it. The owner and admins see it labeled "Banned."
Effect on Members, Owner, and Admins
| Role | During ban |
|---|---|
| Members | Read-only access. Can view the group and its rides. Cannot RSVP to new rides. See an "Unavailable" notice when opening the group. |
| Admins | All admin functions are unavailable. Read-only access only. See a "Banned" notice. |
| Owner | Cannot manage the group. Cannot create rides, change settings, approve requests, or promote admins. Sees a "Banned" notice. |
No one can join or leave the group during the ban. No new RSVPs are accepted for any ride within the group.
Effect on Rides
Rides that are already in progress continue for their current participants. No new RSVPs are accepted on any ride — including rides that started before the ban.
No new rides can be created in the group while the ban is active.
When a Ban is Lifted
The operator lifts the ban via the admin API. The operator selects which state to restore the group to; the default is the state the group was in before the ban (active or archived), but the operator may choose either.
- All group functions appropriate to the restored state are re-enabled.
- Pending join requests that were frozen during the ban resume and expire on their normal schedule.
- Public groups reappear in discovery if restored to active.
- The owner and all admins receive a notification.
- Admin roles are not auto-restored. The owner must re-grant admin roles manually.
Known Limitation
Members cannot leave a banned group. Because members cannot access the group details screen while the group is banned, the Leave Group option is unreachable. Members are automatically restored to their previous access when the ban is lifted or when they are removed by the owner or operator.
