Report a Group
A regular group member flags the group for platform operator review.
Who Can Do This
Regular members of the group only. The group owner and admins cannot report their own group. Non-members cannot report a group.
Steps
- Open the group detail screen.
- Tap Report.
- Submit the report.
- Choose whether to leave the group.
Rules
- Only a regular member of the group can submit a report.
- A report is submitted to the platform operator queue for review.
- When submitting a report, the member is offered the option to leave the group. Choosing to leave follows the normal leave flow. See Leave a Group.
- If the member stays, they cannot report the same group again. They retain the option to leave at any time.
- The reporting user is not told the outcome. Reports are reviewed internally.
- Submitting a report does not affect the group's visibility or the reporter's membership status unless they choose to leave.
- Operators can update group settings as a result of a review.
What Happens Next
The report is queued for platform operator review. The reporting user returns to the group screen immediately with no visible change to the group.
When an Operator Takes Action
If an operator chooses to act on a group following a review, they can ban it. Submitting a report does not change the group's state — only operator action does.
When a group is banned:
- The owner and admins see the group labeled "Banned" and are notified with the reason. Regular members are not notified — they see the group labeled "Unavailable" the next time they open it.
- All group activity is suspended per the rules in Group Ban.
The operator may also choose not to take action, in which case the group remains unchanged.
Failure Cases
- Non-member: The Report option is not visible to users who are not regular members of the group. Non-members, the owner, and admins do not see it.
- Already reported: A member who has already submitted a report for this group cannot report it again. The Report option is no longer shown.
- Group no longer exists: If the group was deleted before the report is submitted, the screen shows "Group not found."
- Group already banned: A member who remains in a banned group can still submit a report. It is queued for operator review as normal.
- Group is archived: A report can be submitted for an archived group. It is queued for operator review as normal.
Planned — not yet live: This action is not yet implemented. Additional operator capabilities (e.g., force-removing members, permanent removal) will be considered in future iterations.
Known Gap
Reporting is scoped to the group as a whole. There is no mechanism for owners or admins to report an individual member or ride to platform operators. Owners and admins can remove problem members from their group (and those users are automatically added to the group blocklist), but they have no direct escalation path to operators for member-level misuse. This will be considered as a post-launch feature request.
